Supergirl's outfits

Supergirl's outfits

I have to talk about it.

Now my main focus is the Supergirl TV show but i cannot talk about the outfits on the show without talking about the comics first.

I really want this to be real. So so much i wish this was a promotional photo and not a fan edit, it's amazing, so looks so good and powerful, and most importantly it's not overly feminine. Why would a Superhero give a crap about having feminine outfit, when she saving people and fighting enemies. I actually believe and this is me personally that the trouser look is somehow more empowering than the skirt. BUT let me stop there and come back to this laster on.

Comics:

Well as a women i see that Supergirl's outfit throughout her history in the comic has mostly been very skimpy, and why? She has many outfits throughout her appearance in comic books and here are a few.

This is a very old comic version of Supergirl and her skirt is tiny, near non-existent. And not just that, she has a v-neck t-shirt on, to show off even more skin. The most major difference from this version of super girl though is that she is not wearing boots, just ballet pumps. This outfit is redicously, the skirt is just horrible, i can see all of her legs basically.

A crop top? Is it really the best outfit to fight injustice and crime in, i don't think so. Improvement on the last outfit she actually has a skirt here but i can still see a lot of leg, very feminine but a lot of skin on show. Don't get me wrong the outfit is on point and she looks super good (see what i did there??).

Just when i thought it couldn't be worse. Here we are with just pants and not pants like superman wore on top on his trousers but bikini briefs. I can literally see most of her hips, and i assume (as i cannot see) her ass as well. Again is a great outfit and she looks great but is this really the way we wanna see out female superheroes.

A shining light of hope has appeared with some better outfits during the comics for Kara Zor-el.

Now this is the outfit that us fans of the show are use to. A long sleeve, with a skirt and high boots, the classic Supergirl look. Whats wrong with this outfit? Absolutely nothing. It's modest and covers near all parts of her, a perfect outfit for a superhero.

Now this outfit is what i'm talking about.

Now this is the best picture i could find atm. it was difficult but lets appreciate this outfit. It's similar to Superman's, but a bit more red in it. Now How did Supergirl go from barely any clothes to being fully covered? Well i don't know. It's not a topic i know huge amounts about but will probably look into it more in the future, as i love Supergirl.

So now to Overgirl. Don't know a massive amount about this but what i gather is she is from a parallel universe run by Nazis. Overgirls outfit is much like the last Supergirl outfit it covers everything, but she also has a mask, because, well she's a villain and every good villain starts with a mask. The black and red of her outfit is so cool and dark, makes her look amazing.

TV show

I love Supergirl the tv show, it has it's amazing moments and it bad moments but lets not get onto that, i would rant for hours and i'm not gonna do that to you guys. So lets appreciate Supergirl's outfit.

What i love about this is, it is nearly literally taken from the classic comic book version of Supergirl's outfit, the only difference is that this version has dark coloured tights on. This suit is empowering and feminine, it radiates strength and power, but most of this is due to the actual characteristics of Supergirl herself.

'So simultaneously, I’m feeling all these feelings of empowerment and positivity and femininity and strength, and I have this pirate patch on essentially. It was a little goofy. There was two things going on at once — two opposing factors of trying the suit on.' - Melissa Benoist

A question that springs to mind is can she fight it that outfit? The Answer is Yes, she can. Not many draw backs to the outfit expect from the occasional villain grabbing her but the cape, but many Superheroes have cape and face the same issues, and without the cape, fly would be much harder.

A joke in the first episode, a costume not to wear, a nod to the old comics.

Here we are Evil Supergirl / Red Kryptonite Supergirl. Now when Supergirl was affected with red kryptonite, which weakens and gradually destroying the infected inhibitions, as well as playing upon their negative thought and brining them to the surface. Now Kara does go off the rails when effected and this outfit is actually a sort of Kryptionian body armour which is uses by Astra and Non and their army during season 1 of the show. This outfit is amazing. She looks amazing. Whats not to love? Though i understand once she wore this outfit and terrorised the city she obviously could not wear it again without them feelings coming to light. Also the black of the outfit dos give off this bad/villain vibe.

Not real but an amazing outfit idea, looks just as good as the Skirt version. Would look to she it.

Over girl time again. It will soon be time for the second 4 way cross over, and this episode looks even better than the first one, not just because Alex (Supergirl's sister) is going as well. What is not to love about this outfit? It's so good, i'm so into it. A true evil looking outfit, with superpower powers to match.

I don't wanna sound like a idiot saying Supergirl should be modest and not look feminine, because she should look feminine but at the end of the day she is a women and her name for the public is Supergirl. She's a badass with awesome abilities and that in it's self is feminine, she doesn't need skimpy outfits to do that. All them outfits do is make for good sex appeal. Any outfit Supergirl wears will be amazing but i feel like i am not the only person who is so into these other outfits and i need to get some of my thought out so here it is.

Thanks for reading guys. Let me know if you like it and i would love opinion on the outfits themselves and which you think are the best from the comics and the show...
